  i read somewhere that in 324, constantine decided that literal christianity was to be the offical religion of the roman empire.

  could anyone point me to an author or book that describes how and why this happened.

  also, does anyone have any information on how the current 66 bible books were chosen over the many books that were discarded.. thanks.

  I am now quite puzzled over these extra books called the apocrypha which everyone says the catholics use but the protestants dropped.... I have an american made AUTHORIZED VERSION which is identicle to the KJV except that it has the apocrypha in it and was made between 1790 and 1820...

  it says in the front that the authorized version has stood the test of time 180 years from its origins in 1610 [? odd?] making the date of this section 1790 but in the back there is a section added with has tables and charts and a concordance and a dating system which ends saying to the present year of our lord 1820.... there is no copywrite date anywhere in it.

  so it seems that american protestants anyway had the other books in their bible as late as 1820s.

  What does perfect mean??

  supposedly adam was perfect, jesus was perfect; and witnesses hope to be perfect in the new system.

  but what does perfection mean.

  is it a physical state or is it freedom from sin?

  A thought came to me not so long ago....perfect compared to what?

  I am real, my whole life has been real...it can 0nly be seen as lacking, flawed or imperfect if I compare it to something it was not....but why should I do that?

  surely a real god would not compare my real life to what he knew to be a lie or a false ideal which has little to do with reality... and how could a real wise god demand we live up to a fantasy which he never showed to be valid in the first place.

  why trust a being who never learned anything from anyone and made things that all die?

  to see the need for a redeemer one needs to accept that reality is flawed and should be something else...which of course is silly, reality is always exactly as it must be.... sure we can IMAGINE that things could be better than they ARE, but its easy to imagine when you don't have to make it real or know what it would take to make it real... I can imagine levitating without anything more than a thought...but that is not reality....since I have no idea how to actually make that work, yet :)

  i've got a situation which has meant that soon i will be in close proximity to someone i really don't want to bump into without being primed and having thought out some sensible responses.

  i don't want to be in a situation where the only response i have is to blow my stack and punch the guy out.. this guy is an elder, reasonably well switched on and a lifer.

  he's also an inflexible sob who is certain of his own righteousness.

  I just would just tell him that I dont know what to believe right now...that I am honestly searching and need some time to examine my faith and beliefs and my relationship with God.... I have not thrown anything away, but I am determined find the truth no matter where it takes me... and I am trusting that a loving Just and merciful God will understand.

  un proposal: i picked up a comment on another site about a supposed resolution that was to be introduced to the un on january 27th, 2004 that would effectively ban religion.

  if this is true, then the jw leaders (governing buzzards) and their followers will have a prophetic field day!!!

  what all civilized goverments around the world have been doing and should be doing is taking a NEUTRAL stand when it comes to all religions....some see this Agnostic stance promoting the religion of agnosticism and not neutral at all...which frankly is pretty silly as all agnostic means is ---I do not pretend to know the ultimate reality of any god[s]---which any goverment with more than one religion should adopt as it is not their place to determine the religion of the citizens but to provide a structure where all beliefs and faiths can co-exist in some sort of stability.

  yes one group with a rational non theistic point of view trying to ban all religion for the good of all mankind

  which of course will not work in this world we currently live in because most humans are believers in some deity and generally feel that their religion is the TRUTH and all others are enemies that need to be converted or destroyed or both.

  it reminds me of the atheists who seek to ban God

  i just wanted to clear something up about micheal's kids being biracial since i see people commenting on it a lot on this board and others.

  fyi, mixed kids don't always come out looking mixed.

  sometimes a mixed child will come out looking black, and not white at all.

  I dont think this is about race but child slavery or buying children which no one will let you adopt.

  I dont care what race Michael wants to be, that to me is a silly issue, this is America and you can be what ever you desire as long as you respect the rights of others.

  I once mentioned that those children are obviously not his...because, people forget that michale once looked VERY black and even bi-racial children who look white by color rarely do not have some of their black parents features...those kids do not show a single trace of anything remotely like Michaels family.... while that is possible, I find it highly unlikely that they were fathered by him or any other black man.

  I dont care if the children are black or part black, I made the remark because its my belief that Michael used his money to buy them.

  Do not forget that there was a gap between adam being made and eve coming along...so that 1975 must be adjusted...so if 2034 is the end, that may mean that Adam was alone with the animals for what? 59 years? one wonders why God was so hard on people humping sheep, eh?

  Hidden Images; last time.

  thanks again to all those who responded with an open mind to my postings regarding hidden images in the wt publications, but wow, i have heard from some pretty forceful personalities who are apparently still pissed off about getting duped by the wtbts.

  so many flames, so many flamers .

  calm down, get some pot, get some beer, get some therapy, but please get over it and yourselves.

  I first read the book subliminal seduction in the late 80s, right before I first heard of the artwork JW flap...immediately I saw subliminals everywhere and could not tell if they were natural or accidental or man made..but then something weird began to happen, I saw them in people's heads and bodies...something apparently in our pattern recognition system picks out patterns even if none are there....or are they? I saw swastika's in some JWs fore heads....it spooked me, so I stopped looking for them for a long time...

  Then I was doodling and the word FAKE popped out literally from the shadows...

  the AWAKE mag around march-june of 1990 had the pope and two other religious leaders on the front cover...and while tracing the shadows on his face the word FAKE was clear as day.... the word FART was on the patriach next to him to the right... I showed it to my ex wife, also a JW at the time and she saw it too....

  it was enough to get me to stop going to meetings and read Armaggedon Delayed with a clear mind, free of the hypnotic spell they had on me for ten plus years

  was I imagining it? maybe, but I saw what I saw and I am glad I did.

  Is the rank and file aware of the serious dilema the WTS is facing?

  the rank and file fears "apostates" hence jws will not accpet any evidence or arguments from succh like ones.

  the mind set automatically rejects any charges against the wts without examining facts obejectivle because the wts cannot be wrong.by definition jws view the wts as god's agency, so it cannot be wrong and even if it is wrong, it is for a reason that god is allowing it and it is god's arrangement and not the business of the rank and file to judge for themselves on that but,to leave it in j's hand and in time it will be taken care of.

  in law that is called a catch all, which is sometimes the power that a judge is empowered with by the state to use his discretion and do whatever the hell he wants, pardon the phrase.. it is true that the wts has opoosers that distort facts and trump up charges in order to discredit the wts, but false accustaions against thewts do not camcel out real evidence that challenges the wt and above and beyond wt teachings is the evidence that puts a differebnt spin on and shows another perspective of the bible, and the concept of god affecting in peoples lives.

  Sorry, wasn't trying to hijack your thread...just had a brainfart about what Gary said. Your comments are insightful. I truly believe they'll continue to lose the "smarter" or maybe, less isolated ones. The ones who have little contact with the outside world will continue to swallow Mother's garbage as they have nothing else because Mother does not allow it. I guess in all reality, I am HOPING the "smarter" ones will get out, as I have some loved ones left in there.

  good stage hypnotists chose their audiance participants carefully based on how they react to their SUGGESTIONS, nothing less goes on in most religions.... JWs are masters at weeding out those who will not submit to their trance inductions. The more outrageous the suggestion the deeper they can go with the trances

  when you hear the trumpet of Jesus sound....
